FAQ’s For Filmmakers

What is the deadline for submissions to the main programme?

The deadline for submissions to the main programme is 7th August 2016.

What is the fee for submitting to the main programme?

The fee is £25, payable via PayPal via the submissions page here.

There are no fee waivers.

NB. You do not need a Paypal account to pay, you just need a credit card.

How can I send you my submission?

You can submit your entry via a password protected Vimeo link.

NB. No entries will be accepted without a submission form.

Do you accept works in progress or rough cuts?

We’re happy to discuss works in progress on a case by case basis, please get in touch with us here before progressing with a submission.

Do you accept foreign language films?

We welcome foreign language films however as our audience is English speakers, the films would need to be subtitled for consideration.

What do I need to include with my submission?

Please make sure you’ve read and agreed to our Terms and Conditions, returned a signed and completed Submission Form and paid the submission fee. It is quickest and easiest to include a link to your film on a password protected Vimeo link. This will only be viewed by the screening panel (and if selected, the Awards Jury).

If you’re sending the film as a hard copy, please make sure you label the DVD clearly with the film name, director’s name and email address. If you are submitting a hard copy from outside of the UK, mark the package as a “Trade Sample” and for customs purposes mark the value as no more than $6 – which should eliminate any extra charges. There is no need to send a Press Kit at this point but we will request one should your film be accepted into the festival.

How will I know that you have received my film submission?

We will email the you via the contact on the submission form once the film has been received and processed by the LS/FF Submissions Panel.

I’ve submitted my film, what happens now?

Each film received will be viewed by the LS/FF Submissions Panel comprised of trusted surf industry movers and shakers and surf cinema aficionados before any decisions are made.

Filmmakers will be notified via email week beginning 8th August if their film has been accepted into the festival.

All decisions are final.

My film has been accepted into the LS/FF. What do I need to do now?

CONGRATULATIONS!

All filmmakers who have films accepted into the festival are required to send a high quality copy of the film for screening by no later than 21st August 2016. Our preferred format is DCP hard drive as this provides the best screening quality. We can also accept Blue Ray or DVD. Also all filmmakers are required to send 1 additional Bluray or DVD as a back-up as disks are occasionally damaged in transit. Filmmakers assume all shipping costs to LS/FF and are responsible for ensuring that the films arrives with the LS/FF in good and proper time for screening. LS/FF will assume shipping cost for returning DCP hard drives.

We will also ask you to send us your press kit including trailer, press images, film synopsis, cast and crew details etc as we will be talking to the press about your film and stoking the fires for your UK Premiere. We have been involved in surfing and surf culture for over 30 years as writers, authors, publishers, editors, script writers, producers, marketeers, publicists and picture editors. Because of this, we understand first hand the level of work and commitment it takes to get a project off the ground, so we get behind each and every film we screen at the London Surf / Film Festival, promoting the film and the filmmaker, inviting press to the premieres, organising interviews with filmmakers and placing news stories about the films with core and mainstream media throughout Europe.

The films showcased at the festival will be viewed by the Awards Jury, comprised of some of the most influential names in surfing and the media. The films will be judged by this screening panel in the categories including, but not limited to Best Film, Best Documentary, Best Cinematography, Best Soundtrack, Best International Short. The audience will decide on London Surf / Film Festival Viewers Choice while the LS/FF team will award the Spirit of the Festival.
