CHRIS McCLEAN

Multi award-winning Director Chris McClean has been part of the LS/FF family since year one in 2011, when his ground breaking film, Uncommon Ideals’ claimed the inaugural of Shortie of the Year  award.

It both set the bar for homegrown surf filmmakers and showed the surfing world just what a rich vein of talent exists on these shores. The film, created in conjunction with talented cinematographer Mark Waters, went viral and scooped up awards and accolades around the globe. This success spurred Channel 4 to commission a follow up (Beyond the Scars)  and led on to a series of commercial projects and films, as well as the highly acclaimed live feature / audio visual journey Translate in partnership with longtime collaborator musician and composer CJ Mirra. Chris also edits Backwash, a beautifully crafted annual journal of all that is great in surf culture.

Chris lives on the East Coast with his family, next to some very mediocre beach breaks and a particularly unsuccessful football club – but just a short drive from some of Europes best reefs.
