Dirty Old Wedge

BEST DOCUMENTARY: Dirty Old Wedge Dir. Tim Burnham, 2016 (60 mins)

WINNER LS/FF 2016

The Wedge is a mythical man-made mutant.  Since its creation, people have flocked to stand and stare in awe as a tight crew of surfers and bodysurfers take on the monstrous waves where injuries are common and where deaths have occurred. Featuring epic womping, wipeouts, hard charging and insight from Keith Malloy, Mark Cunningham, Ron Romanosky   Mike Stewart, Danny Kwock, Bill Sharp and the hard charging WEDGE CREW this multi-award winning documentary is an epic ‘eyes-on-stalks’ visceral feast not to be missed!

“When you combine big waves and shallow water, injuries are bound to happen,” says Director Tim Burnham. “The older guys have a saying at Wedge… ‘Small days break necks. Big days will drown you.’ I have personally seen many of my friends get injured at Wedge and have also been hurt myself quite a few times. It’s a scary part of the game that we all accept but the reward definitely outweighs the risk. We’re all addicted. The wave itself is a man-made mistake and the different groups of people riding down there are all so different. Wedge is known for its bodysurfers. We initially set out to create a story about the wave and ended up with a coming-of-age story about people and their relationship with the wave and each other.”
