Approaching Lines is a showcase for artisans like Grannie Knits, delectable knits crafted by experienced hands. We caught up with the founder Alistair to find out how his project started.

What’s story behind Grannies Knitts?

Ok well whilst I was at university in Cardiff my granny made me a few hats. Then all my friends wanted them so we naturally had to create a community of knitters that’s expanded to what we have today.

So I left a more corporate work environment in London back in April this year to focus on GK full time and work towards our Long-term aim is to create a coastal clothing company that focuses primarily on knitwear.

We understand you have an ethical approach to your business?

Yeah we donate 10% of our profits from direct sales towards knitting materials for nursing homes.

What’s your relationship to the sea?

Well for the past 5 summers I have been teaching surfing in Polzeath at Wavehunters Surf School after gaining my qualifications on a 3-month gap year trip in South Africa with Ticket To Ride, which was epic. I graduated last year from University in Cardiff, which was a great chance to mix surfing and lectures, which is probably something I took advantage of a bit too much!!
