After the break the European Premiere of The Life and Death of Westerly Windina Dir. Alan White and Jamie Brisick, is the untold tale of one of surfing’s most enigmatic figures. Peter Drouyn was a rockstar character, driven competition surfer and innovative thinker. Combining intimate interviews and rare archival footage, the film highlights Drouyn’s seminal contributions while exploring the isolation and struggles he faced behind that swaggering public persona—and his eventual transition into Westerly Windina. Twelve years in the making this is an essential exploration of identity and unflinching query into selfhood.

Premiere The Big Sea from filmmakers Lewis Arnold and Chris Nelson. Four years in the making, this important documentary exposes surfing’s hidden links to Cancer Alley and the devastating impact of the wetsuit world’s toxic addition to Neoprene. Through the lens of surfing, and unwrapping issues of social justice, environmental racism, corporate responsibility and greenwashing, this life and death tale of two seemingly unconnected communities explores the power we have as individuals to effect change.

Accompanied by a very special filmmaker Q&A hosted by Matt Barr, Looking Sideways

After the break, the European Premiere of Return to the Bering in which multi award-winning documentary filmmaker and explorer Ben Weiland ventures out into unchartered reaches of the Bering Strait in search of unridden realms and frigid adventures. Followed by director Keith Malloy’s intimate portrait of an underground charger. What does pushing the boundaries in the craziest slabs and most terrifying waves look like in an era when accepted norms are constantly being broken? Meet Shane Ackerman, hard charging star of Astronaut in the Ocean.

How do you live a life less ordinary? How do you build a life of purpose? Being Plastic from visual artist Andy Hughes and M.A.D., an intimate portrait of Chris Hines MBE, groundbreaking environmentalist, activist and co-founder of SAS, provide just the inspiration to those questions.
