Priboi

BEST FILM 2018: Priboi  Dir: Kokorev Konstantin, 2018 (80mins)

In Siberia, winter water temperatures average just 2 degrees, snow lays heavy on the beaches and then there are the blizzards to contend with. This is cold water surfing at its very limits. The groundbreaking Priboi is a search for waves, a quest across the vastness of the Russian continent, home to some 37,000 km of coastline.  The odyssey takes in the most inaccessible spots navigating frigid water and active volcanoes of the dramatic Kamchatka Peninsula, across Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Sochi (formerly home to the winter Olympics), Makhachkala, Vladivostok, Abkhazia, Crimea, the Arctic, Kuriles and Sakhalin island.

A two year-long journey from the warm water pointbreaks to the icy fringed beaches, from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka and across the Arctic Ocean all the way to the Caspian Sea.

Told through breathtaking cinematography by Konstantin Kokorev, this is a never-before witnessed insight into the birth of surf culture in Russia and how pioneering souls continue to push boundaries in the name of discovery. A must see surf exploration.

Featuring: Kostya Kokorev, Sergei Rasshivaev, Anton Morozov, Irina Kosobukina, Dmitry Pitiya, and David Dzhalagonia
