Shaun Tomson

Shaun Tomson – 1977 World Champion, best selling writer, filmmaker and surf legend. He stands as one of the few waveriders whose impact on surfing is defined by both is time in the line-up as well as away from the water. His brand of surfing in the 1970’s ushered in a new dawn, with hard charging barrel riding coupled with subtle control, he brought a cool fluidity to surfing’s most critical zone, while his drive and motivation helped usher in the professional era. The seminal film Free Ride not only captured his epic style and prowess on celluloid, it blew minds around the world. It stands as a testament to the ability of moving images to inspire a generation.

Shaun’s staring role in surf movies have spanned four decades, from Fantasea, to In God’s Hands. In 2008 he produced the definitive documentary feature Bustin’ Down The Door, a groundbreaking film that brought to life the most exciting era in professional surfing. Away from the white-water he has authored the best-selling Surfer’s Code – 12 Simple Lessons for Riding Through Life and puts time in as a board member and ambassador for the environmental group Surfrider Foundation.
