Strength, fitness & flexibility for surfing
Gain & Sustain for Surfers
Winter is coming and so too the prospect of cold, stiff bodies being hauled into damp wetsuits… time to focus on strength, fitness & flexibility to maximise daylight hours, minimise injuries and keep you moving and motivated through the flat spells.
We’re hosted a special yoga fitness drills workshop with the brilliant @yogaclairelondon designed to do just that, and we swear by it.
The session was an introduction to strengthening muscles you need to be strong when you are in the water and stretching muscles that tend to get tight when you are surfing, thinking about those niggley shoulders which are the bane of our surfing lives.
With that in mind, she has shared a free, exclusive 5 minute surfers stretch to keep shoulders moving & motivation flowing: HERE PASSWORD: LSFF2024 (it also works if you’ve been hunched over a computer!)
“The aim of drills workouts that I teach are to make sure your body can readily meet the demands placed on it when you’re surfing – giving you more power when paddling out and popping up, more strength when you are riding a wave and over time give you more stamina so you can extend the length of your sessions in the water,” explains Claire. “Working on strength & fitness really pays off when you get in the water. Drills offer a balance of it all – strengthening, stretching and cardio with a focus on functional movement patterns to minimise injury and maximise your potential when you are in the water.”
You don’t need any special equipment, just wear something comfortable that allows you to move freely.
Claire is Day1 Yoga coach, yoga teacher & handstand lover who helps surfers stay injury free in and out of the water.
