The Shorties 2023

The longlist of LS/FF 2023 Shorties is live. Go enjoy, support and vote for the cream of homegrown filmmaking!
Short films are at the very core of modern surf culture, a creative outlet for sharing those stories, myths and sagas that keep legends alive and those stoke fires burning long after the wave has extinguished. Epic odysseys are traded with home wins with equal reverie, fickle swells, cold briny winters and warm, rose tinted dawns are written into our folklore alongside tales of heroes, chargers and chancers. Whether answering the existential question of what it means to be a surfer, or epitomising pure stoke, this is the purpose of The Shorties.

The Shorties 23 x Northcore
LS/FF 2023 Shorties short film contest presented by Northcore is no different – some of the finest filmmakers from our home shores have served up a fresh dose of inspiration for the season ahead.
We lined up 90 minutes of bite-sized surf movie magic for your viewing pleasure – a longlist of shorts – and then asked you, esteemed surf community, to support your favourites by watching, enjoying, sharing and voting for them.
The very best (as selected by you and our JURY) were premiered on the big screen as part of the 12th London Surf / Film Festival presented by Finisterre hosted 23 – 25 November at the iconic Riverside Studios, London. And as part of our commitment to UK and Irish filmmaking talent, for 2023, we’re delighted to have a £500 cash prize for the 2023 Shortie of the year.
Here’s to all the makers and creators who keep the stoke fires burning long after the waveriding is done!
And congratulations to our winners:
