Saturday 9th November 3pm @ Riverside Studios

This special workshop focusses on the art of activism, how the power of words and deeds combined really can change the world and how we as individuals can inspire change.
We’re honoured to be joined by Chris Hines MBE. A surfer, an activist and one of the most respected voices in British environmentalism, he has quite literally changed the state of our rivers and ocean. Via quick thinking, smart talking inflatable turds, gas masks, and a dogged perseverance in following the facts, he has help redefine the way the government legislates about our waterways and how people think about them – not as a giant toilet but as a place that sustains nature and nourishes our connection to it. In 1990 he cofounded Surfers Against Sewage and consults for the great and the good on matters of the environment. A generous mentor and storyteller, he’s often found scoring a few good waves round the headland and beyond.
Joining our discussion we’re delighted to welcome special guests including:
Seth Hughes An award-winning filmmaker originally specialising in surf and ocean cinematography, and a contributor to environmental documentary The Big Sea, he is driven by a determination to remind the modern human of our intrinsic relationship with the natural world.
Yvette Curtis Equality and Diversity advocate, Yvette champions inclusion in surfing and beyond. Founder of Wave Wahines a North Devon, UK-based grassroots organization focussed around removing the barrier to local girls and women accessing the sea and EDI Manager for Surfers Against Sewage, Yvette raises the often hidden discussion around diversity and inclusion in surfing and ocean advocacy.
Demi Taylor Producer of The Big Sea and a champion of elevating and celebrating women in surfing, Demi is a writer and filmmaker known for telling engaging tales on screen, in print and in person.
Navigated by Chris Nelson, activist, filmmaker and writer, the discussion will explore how to live a life of purpose, how to tell the tales that matter and the tales that resonate.
Aimed at anyone interested in purpose driven story telling.
