UK PREMIERE: Island Earth by Cyrus Sutton //

We are stoked to be bringing this LS/FF x HUCK pop-up to 71a, with the UK Premiere of this highly anticipated film, with beers courtesy of our good friends at Sharps Brewery.

Cyrus Sutton will be familiar name to many due to his humorous and thought provoking “zero dollar staycation” surf trip documentary Stoked and Broke, in which he and fellow surfer Ryan Burch embark on a search for waves through southern California on foot, sleeping under the stars and along the way highlighting some of the excesses of today’s throwaway society.

For his latest feature Island Earth, Cyrus puts his background as an Emmy winning filmmaker to great use producing a rich tale set around the world of GMO research in Hawaii. These islands have become the testbed for an expanding industry, and Island Earth follows a young indigenous scientist’s search for truth as he enters an industry that many feel is threatening his homeland.

Showing with: SHORTIE Shortlisted film STOKE ON ME by Martin Jackson (5mins) An environmental surfing robot is drawn into an animated world in this stoke filled Ah-Ha homage.
