The Shorties Shortlist is LIVE!

The Shorties is one of the most hotly contested and hard won categories of LS/FF. And the reasons for this are two fold.

The standard of submissions is super high – that’s a given. When we established The Shorties in 2011, it was all about shining a light on and elevating homegrown creative talent. Over the past 12 years, we’ve been blown away by exceptional entries from the most exciting emerging and established homegrown filmmakers, celebrating the many facets and stories of our culture.

The bar set by our judging panel is also incredibly high. The Shorties are judged by both the wider surf community and our Jury, a panel of leading lights from the world of surf, cinema and story telling – from Emmy & BAFTA Award winners and commissioners to cultural commentators, cultural champions, editors and chargers. This means that the short films selected to premiere at LS/FF resonate at the very heart of our culture and hit at the highest level. It ensures that the opportunities to shine in The Shorties are equal, that it’s not about big followings, big budgets and big cameras, it’s always about big vision, big impact and big ideas.
Thanks to The Shorties panel which this year includes: Yvette Curtis, Roos Van de Weerd, Dimitri Doganis, Matt Barr, Cassie Bennitt, Shelley Jones, Sarah Bentley, Nick Holden, Lauren Hill, Ed Temperley, Surfline Europe’s Tom Vaughan and Jason Lock and Carve Magazine’s Steve England.
